Skincare for Teens

These years are tough... and that goes for your skin as well. Without getting too technical, your hormones are changing, which means excess oil production for your skin. Not only does your skin look shiny, this oh-so-lovely over abundance of oil causes acne breakouts.

So, if you're a teen looking to shape up your skincare regimen, give this routine a try:

Morning

Start the day with a cleanser and a toner for oily or acne-prone skin. This duo will remove excess oil, dirt, etc. but won't dry out your skin. Then apply an acne spot treatment to any pimples. An oil-free water-based sunscreen comes next (as you can see this is important at any age), followed by a moisturizer on your cheeks only if they are dry. Girls, make-up goes on last.

During the day

As you go about your day, excess oil may accumulate, so carry a few pads soaked with toner to wipe off the excess oil when needed. You can make them yourself but you can also get them at your local drugstore in ready-made, convenient little packets.

Night

At bedtime, use your cleanser or toner again. Then apply a light, glycolic-based exfoliant over your entire face to heal any acne spots and prevent further breakouts. Lastly, apply your spot treatment. Here's a trick, use a different acne spot treatment at night. There are so many effective products (aka active ingredients) out there that treat pimples, so it's good to combat these blemishes in a few different ways.
