Adult acne can stretch into your 20's and even through your 40's, and a lot of women are dealing with it these days. I myself get a blemish or two every now and then, so I got to wondering, what are the causes? Dr. Schultz has identified three major causes of adult acne:
It's everywhere. The kind in question are the little particles that come from soot, factories and automobiles, among other pollution emitters. When these particles touch your skin, they are absorbed right away into the oil, which in turn clogs your pores. What's more is when you touch your face, you're actually helping to rub that oil and dirt into your pores. Eek. It's no wonder that blemishes are on the horizon.
This is simply using skincare products that are too heavy for your skin type. A great example is using an oil-based moisturizer on oily skin. If the products you are using are too heavy, they're not absorbing correctly into your skin and you can bet that blemishes are an expected result.
Stress at work. Stress at home. A lot of women are working and raising a family at the same time. And there are a million other things out there that can be stressful. We all react to stress differently, but you can be sure that acne blemishes are a direct result of added and continued stress.
The good news is that this type of acne responds to regular treatment and it's quite easy to control. Even before you see a dermatologist (if you choose to see one) you can start using an exfoliant to help pores stay clear. Stick with products that are best for your skin type and try to reduce your stress. Case closed!
