Skin Reactions to Beauty Products

We've heard many people say that you know your skincare product is working if it stings or burns. But is that really true? And, if it stings or burns, could that even be a bad thing? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz answers these questions. To identify your problem, he distinguishes between tingling, stinging and burning. Do you feel a sensation of heat or tiny pins, like prickling? This is usually tingling and you shouldn't worry about it since it is slight and temporary. Stinging and burning, on the other hand, starts almost immediately, increase very quickly, and accelerates so fast that it could frighten you. You should be safe and wash the product off immediately, or the irritation and harm may continue. Since these sensations may be identical to some, there is no way to be 100% sure to tell the difference between the three feelings. However, following this guideline will help you have a better sense of which beauty products are right and safe for you.
