Pros: Light Weight Moisturising - not too drying, not too heavy either, perfect balance for my oily skin Spreads easily across face No white residue when a small amount of product (only need a little of this type of sunscreen) is rubbed in properly and left for a minute I feel my skin is protected with the high SPF
Cons: Product packaging could be better as a bit too much product comes out when I apply to my face (when this happens, it takes a little longer to get rid of the white residue of the sunblock, as too much of the product is on my skin, but the residue does quickly go away anyway even with a lot of product on skin)
Age: 16 - 24
Comments: The best chemfree sunblock I have tried. I have tried Skinceuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50, as I know the damaging effects of UVA and UVB and wanted a light weight product for daily use while I tried to even out my skintone with other products. However having very dark skin, it left a white residue that was very unflattering. This Chemfree Solar Defense Cream for Face & Body SPF 30 does NOT when rubbed in. I HAD to write this review in case other dark skinned women were looking for a sunblock as it is hard to get the very best protection with our colouring, as these beneficial ingredients in sunblocks tend to reveal themselves on the skin which is not favourable to us. Hope this helps. Try it.

Chemfree Solar Defense Cream SPF 30 FAQ
Is an SPF of 30 sufficient?
An SPF of 30 provides 97% protection against UVB rays. For context, SPF 50 provides 98%, and no SPF provides 100%. However, as the SPF increases, so does that thickness of the sunscreen itself. You should always use a sunscreen with SPF of at least 15 to 30, with broad spectrum protection, however, the choice is ultimately up to you and based on your preference of how the sunscreen feels on your skin compared to how much protection it provides.
What is a chemfree sunscreen?
Chemfree sunscreens contain, amongst other ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in place of chemicals such as avobenzone and oxtinoxate. Traditional avobenzone- and oxtinoxate-based sunscreens work by being absorbed into your skin, and after approximately 30 minutes, forming a layer of protection that absorbs and attempts to neutralize the harmful rays of the sun. Chemfree active ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide act as a physical block against the sun's rays, to provide instant protection, without having to wait 30 minutes to be fully protected.
Why should I use a chemfree sunscreen?
Chemfree sunscreens are less irritating than traditional, chemical-based sunscreens. Additionally, the micronized zinc oxide and titanium dioxide particles can absorb oil, making this a good alternative for oily-skinned people.
Why should I use the Chemfree Solar Defense Cream SPF 30 for treating melasma? Can I use any other sunscreen?
Traditional, carbon-based (i.e., not chemfree) sunscreens work by being absorbed into your skin, and then soaking up and neutralizing the sun's damaging rays. Melasma is caused by your pigment cells becoming extremely sensitive and overreacting to damage. While traditional, carbon-based sunscreens do protect you from the sun's damaging rays, since they first absorb those rays into your skin, it provides the rays to chance to cause the melasma to stimulate the already sensitive pigment cells. On the other hand, since chemfree sunscreens attempt to block the sun's damaging rays prior to entering your skin, there is less of a chance of those rays setting off pigment cells. The most effective way to treat melasma is thus using, in addition to an exfoliant and skin brightener, a chemfree sunscreen such as the Chemfree Solar Defense Cream, SPF 30.
