Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF value of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses.
Is an SPF of 15 sufficient?
An SPF of 15 provides 93% protection against UVB rays. For context, SPF 30 provides 97% and SPF 50 provides 98%. And you can never receive 100% in the sun from s sunscreen. However, as the SPF increases, so does that thickness of the sunscreen itself. You should always use a sunscreen with SPF of at least 15 to 30, with broad spectrum protection, however, the choice is ultimately up to you and based on your preference of how the sunscreen feels on your skin compared to how much protection it provides.
