If I had a penny for every time my lips were chapped, well, let’s just say I wouldn’t be buying lottery tickets.

The issue of chapped lips is, simply put, an over drying of the skin on your lip. Cold air, low humidity, sunlight and even strong winds can cause this excessive dryness.

The reason why your lips can dry out so quickly - faster than other areas of your skin - is due to the fact that the skin on your lips is actually a mucus membrane. Without getting too technical, this means that the skin on your lips is much thinner and more delicate, so it’s more vulnerable.

We’ve talked before about combination skincare products - and it seems to me that those that give you two for the price of one are pretty desirable. It's like two peas in a pod.

Who wouldn’t want to save time these days? So, would a cleanser with an exfoliant be a super duo, just like a moisturizer with an SPF?

I'm on a recap trend. Having just summarized the myriad skincare topics we covered in November (from pore minimizing to sensitive skin), I thought it might be a good idea to review the three skincare essentials.

We all make mistakes. And we certainly make them with our skin. I see it as part of the getting to know my skin process. We certainly wouldn’t know what worked and what didn’t if we never gave anything a try. Right?

I think I’ve mentioned my allergy to sunless tanners before - and I’ve made the same mistake several times over by trying different types of sunless tanners, thinking that my skin might accept one better than the other. I eventually figured out that I was allergic to the dye ingredient - dihydroxyacetone - and that was that. No more sunless tanners for me.

We all want things instantly, and why shouldn’t we? Surely you are familiar with the phrase, “patience is a virtue,” and you can bet that this golden rule pertains to skincare.

So, how long exactly do we have to wait?

Winter’s a coming... so that means we should break out coats, gloves, scarves, and... moisturizers?

If you have dry, flaky skin then sure - give it a go - but most of us might not know that a moisturizer isn’t a quick fix for every "dry" skin issue and, sometimes, these products can make things worse. Putting moisturizer on the soles of your feet is a prime example, as is adding a dab or two to your scalp, above or between your eyebrows and next to your nose.

Of the many different complexion problems, enlarged pores are common but, thankfully, easy to fix.

Anyone want to guess what the answer is? Chemical and physical exfoliation!

Enlarged pores occur most frequently on our nose, or around it. They can appear as dark dots, light dots, but actually, these enlarged pores are little holes that cast shadows on your skin. Who knew?

We are all short on time these days. No one wants to hear that their flight is delayed 2 hours, it’ll be an extra 10 minutes for that hamburger the kitchen forgot to make, and 5 minutes seems like an eon of time to spend on your skin.

But say you have an upcoming event (I can name a few on my calendar) in a few weeks, and you want to make sure you’re looking your best. Why not start with your skin? And start now?

First, define.

Define your skin - is it dry, oily, combination, or normal? Choosing products that are right for your skin type is the first step in creating a regimen that is perfectly suited for your pores.

Adopt a daily routine.

Another one of my travel skincare woes just happened to be a few lovely pimples that sprung up on my chin the day after I got home.

While they have healed, I still have two brown spots left to remember them by... and, for some reason, these spots always seem to last infinitely longer than the pimples themselves.

So, what to do? Number one - don’t pick them - however irresistible the urge. And don't pick your pimples. Picking is the habit that causes the dark spots. Let's get rid of these spots the expert way.

The formula: 3 parts product, 1 part patience

The other day, Dr. Oz talked skincare on his show. He had people put some interesting stuff on their faces - coffee grounds and olive oil.

The argument for using these household kitchen items was that they’re a one-minute fix for people short on time for skincare. But, is there a benefit? And is it more beneficial than a formulated skincare product?

There certainly are some weird products out there, and many of them claim to do wonders for wrinkles, fine lines, and all sorts of pesky skincare issues that may be plaguing our normally pristine faces. Actually, coffee grounds seem tame when compared to some other “ingredients," like nightingale poop (I’m not kidding, it’s used in a facial).
